The members of Pandya dynasty ousted by Thirumala Naicker the ruler of the erstwhile Pandya Empire spanning Madurai, Thirunelveli and Ramanathapuram lived in places like Valliyur, Tenkasi, Shengottah, Achankovil and Sivagiri. They had also established their supremacy in parts of Travancore, and some of them belonging to Chempazhanattu Kovil in Sivagiri were given the right to rule the country of Pandalam by the King of Travancore, some eight hundred years ago. King Rajashekara, the foster-father of Lord Ayyappan belonged to this dynasty. A just and precocious sovereign King Rajashekara was held by his subjects in high esteem. Under him, the region was witnessing a goldenage. But the king had one sorrow – he was childless and thus had no heir to inherit his throne. Both the hapless king and his queen prayed ceaselessly to Lord Shiva for a child. Around the same time, a demon by the name of Mahishasura undertook severe penance (tapas) and consequently Lord Brahma...

THE HOLDER OF THE THREE HEADED SPEAR

Image
Lord Rudra is one among the celebrated members of the divine trinity. He takes up the face of destruction. Why should we worship the destroyer? He is said to living in the cremation grounds along with the burning dead bodies , smearing ash all over his body. How can he be GOD? Why the DESTROYER ?   Rudra literally means the "Howler" , vedas calls him the undefeatable archer and gives him the most feared status among the Gods. Brahma ,Vishnu and Rudra are seen to be the three faces of Paramathman. Brahma creates, Vishnu  protects and Rudra destroys , this cycle keeps on rotating. The things that is happening , that had happened and that is going to happen, all these are pre written. Life is a drama written and directed by the almighty. Time ( Kal) is the function with which this game called life is programmed. At the end, time and all of creation is destroyed by Rudra and he turns into Sadashiva and makes the system stable. He absorbs all the energies and cons...

Kumara Koil Murugan Temple

Image
This ancient temple to Murugan known as Kumaran Koyil is located at Padmanabhapuram, home to the palace of the erstwhile Maharaja, on the slopes of the Veli hills. It is located in a commanding position, visible for miles around. Legend has it that Murugan married Valli here and hence the name Velimalai, Manamalai or Kalyanamala. Kumarakovil is a very ancient temple, as attested by the massive sculpture of Lord Murugan in a style dating from the Buddhist period. Buddhism probably flourished from 650-850 CE in Kerala. However, the available inscriptions about the temple date from from the 18 th  century CE only. The temple is accessed through a flight of forty steep steps. Lord Murugan graces the devotees with His consort Valli.  He is faces the east and said to be facing Sthanumalayan  (Lord Siva) of Suchindram. The idol of Lord Murugan is a monolithic sculpture measuring eight feet and eight inches in height. Its long ears indicate that it belongs to the Buddhist...

Tirupparankunram Murugan Temple

Image
Tirupparankunram Murugan Temple is a Hindu temple and one of the Six Abodes of Murugan, located at Tirupparankunram. The temple offers a mystic beauty; is carved in rock and is monstrous in size for such an architecture. According to the legend it is where Murugan married Deivayanai, the divine daughter of the king of heaven, Indra, and he is said to have worshipped Shiva here as Parangirinathar. I left for the temple after visiting the majestic Madurai Meenakshi temple. It was a great experience watching Devi Meenakshi in all her glory along with the Sabarimala pilgrims. Our crew rested for the day in a near by hotel and woke up the next day to see Tirupparankunram Murugan. The morning breakfast was made fast wit bread and butter and a glass of milk. From there we went straight to the temple. As we entered I saw Lord Bhairav with numerous lamps burning in front of him.  Moving on with offering for Lord Murugan we got a friend , who guided us into the ...

HOW CAN WE UNITE THE RELIGIONS OF INDIA?

Image
To do this we can list out the characteristics or basic believe system of the three major religions we have in our country. First of all let us consider Islam and Hinduism.  Islam  is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion, founded by  Prophet Muhammad     in the Middle East in the 7th century CE.  Hinduism  on the other hand is religious tradition that originated in the Indian subcontinent in the pre-classical era and does not have a specific founder. Hinduism, as we see now was not a religion but a way of life followed by the people of Bharath and now due to competition from foreign religion they have formed under a common roof called "Sanadhana Dharma" ( Hinduism). Islam believes that God ( Allah ) is formless,  Ninety nine names and attributes of Allah (God) who is infinite supreme, Sublimely one, all are dependent on him yet he depends on none. Self sufficient. without beginning and without end, and there is nothing comparable to him. As we look...

KALI PURUSHA

Image
SATAN / KALI PURUSHA / LUCIFER To find the origin of Lucifer, we turn to the Old Testament. In the Hebrew, the name Lucifer is translated from the Hebrew word "helel," which means brightness. This designation, referring to Lucifer, is the rendering of the "morning star" or "star of the morning" or "bright star" which is presented in Isaiah. "How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit on the mount of assembly on the heights of Zaphon; I will ascend to the tops of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High’" ( Isaiah 14:12-14 ).  Lucifer is just another name for Satan, who as head of the evil world-system is the real, though invisible, power behind the successive rulers of Tyre, Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome, and all of those evil rulers...
